A diamond ‘tennis’ bracelet is one of the most timeless, elegant pieces of jewelry in a woman’s collection.

Then, in the 1970s, the name suddenly changed forever. Tennis star Chris Evert was competing at the U.S. Open. She was wearing a diamond line bracelet. Suddenly, in the middle of the match, she realized the bracelet was missing.

Play halted and the search was on. Eventually located, that style bracelet immediately became known as the “tennis” bracelet.

The name stuck. While diamond tennis bracelets are still the most popular, other stones are often used with diamonds, like sapphires.
