Using Old Pieces to Redesign Engagement Ring & Earrings

With many families ‘hibernating’ for the winter, to slow the spread of COVID-19, house cleaning remains a favorite activity.

Cleaning out the family jewelry box often leads to the discovery of long forgotten pieces that are no longer worn.

The immediate question that many people have after doing this: what do I do with those pieces?

Often times those pieces have sentimental value, so it’s hard to just get rid of them. That’s where a custom redesign begins.

A woman recently came in with a collection of pieces she no longer loved.

She had a pair of diamond studs, accented by jackets, that were not being worn.

She also had her 6-prong solitaire engagement ring that she hoped to spruce up.

Our design team worked with her to suggest a new, three stone ring.

In the center we used the diamond from her original solitaire engagement ring. Then, on each side, we used the diamonds from her studs. The end result was a beautiful new ring, holding on to the memories of her original stones that were sitting in the jewelry box.

We didn’t stop there.

After removing the diamonds from the studs, we set a pair of blue topaz. That added a pop of color to the jackets, spicing up a classic look.

In her original engagement ring, after the diamond was removed, we set a new amethyst.

So not only did the customer leave with a “new” three-stone ring, but she left with a redesigned fashion ring and a totally re-imagined pair of earrings.
