🇧🇪 Welcome to Belgium!
I spent much of this week in Antwerp, widely regarded as the diamond center of the world.
The main purpose of my visit was to understand how government and industry here is actively verifying that each diamond coming into the United States, and other G7 countries like Canada and the European Union, are not being sourced from Russia.
Russia is a major diamond producing country, but faces serious sanctions due to the War in Ukraine.
I was granted rare, behind the scenes access to highly guarded import and export facilities to see the verification in person.
Of course I also visited with others in the trade, involved in transforming diamonds from what essentially look like rocks, into the beautiful gems we present to you in our showroom.
While many folks don’t ask where the gems we sell are from, some do. And for those of you interested, it’s really important for me to be able to answer thoughtfully. That’s why I love trips like this.
We’ll be sharing more content from my time in Belgium in the coming days.
Thanks for your continued support, and trust!

🌈 How fun is this custom ring? Our client came to us with her own gems, and wanted to design a stunning cocktail ring. This is what we ended up with—a double claw prong 18k white gold ring set with her beautiful tanzanite in the center. On either side a colorful array of garnet, peridot, and princess cut diamonds. Such a unique, one of a kind ring that will capture attention from across the room!

✨ Transformation Tuesday! Check out this amazing sapphire transformation! Our client came to us with one sapphire set in a halo. She wanted to turn her ring into a three stone, so we went to work. Our design team carefully sourced two matching sapphires, then wrapped each stone in a halo of round natural diamonds 😍 What an upgrade!

🙋🏻Raise your hand if a ring doesn’t fit because of your knuckle! These expandable bands are *all new* and just arrived in our showroom. They are game changers for those who struggle with finger size because of a knuckle that’s problematic. So many people have rings that spin around because the size needs to be large enough to go over the typically bigger knuckle—then it’s too big for the base of the finger once it’s over. This expandable sizing bar in the inside is genius—it makes the ring bigger as it presses in over the knuckle, then pops out for a snug fit on the other side. Each ring offers a 1.5 size difference, for example, and 8-9.5 or 9.5-11. Stop by to try the difference on yourself!

🛍️ We don’t offer sales, but we do offer deals! Let’s explain. We never offer sales or discounts. We offer one fair price, and want you to feel like you understand the true value of our pieces. How frustrating is it if you buy a gift one week, only to see it on sale the next? We hate that too. BUT, look at these pieces we have in our case. We had these made when gold was HALF as expensive as it is now. We don’t mark these pieces up as gold climbs. They’re marked based on how much it cost to make them at the time. That means when you’re buying them out of the case you’re getting a huge deal—once they go we’d be making them at a much higher cost of gold! Michael joins Hingham Jewelers as its third-generation, following years of working as a meteorologist in local television news. While it may seem counterintuitive to go from television back to the family business, Michael explains that fundamentally his mission in each job is the same: describe something scientifically complex, and make it easy to understand for a non-scientist.

Founded in 1948, Hingham Jewelers is now in its third-generation as a family-owned business, offering exceptional jewelry services to the South Shore, including custom design and repair. The businesses was founded in Downtown Hingham in 1948, but moved to South Hingham on Route 53 after a devastating fire hit Hingham Square in 1988. Stacey, daughter of founders Helen and Angelo, took over the business at that point. Her husband, Dave, eventually joined her. Now, about 30 years later, their son Michael Page takes over the business as generation number three.
