Over time, prong tips wear down, flatten, or break, and when they do, the stones they hold are at risk. A lost diamond or colored stone is one of the most preventable jewelry losses there is, and at Hingham Jewelers, prong inspection and repair is something we take seriously. Our tip and prong repair service addresses worn, bent, broken, or missing prong tips by retipping or rebuilding them in the same metal as the original setting. We use magnification to assess each prong thoroughly, and we will never tell you a prong needs work if it does not. If you notice a prong snagging on fabric, a stone that rocks slightly in its setting, or if it has simply been a while since your prongs were checked, bring your piece in. A prong repair is far less expensive than replacing a lost stone. We recommend having prong integrity checked at least once a year for pieces worn daily.
