Earth Day offers us an opportunity to reflect on ways in which we can all live more sustainable lives.
At Hingham Jewelers, we are constantly evaluating ways our business can operate more sustainably, and ways we can offer more sustainable jewelry options to our customers.
Working with Sustainable Brands
Working with jewelry designers that also value sustainability is a focus for us.
This year, for example, we started offering pieces from the A. Jain collection. These pieces, crafted right here in the United States in sterling silver and gold, use diamonds sourced from suppliers who adhere to sustainable, conflict-free, and ethical business practices.
Each A. Jain piece is also made to order, a deliberate move to prevent creating an oversupply that wastes raw materials.
Using Recycled Materials
One of the best ways to make jewelry more sustainable is by using recycled metals.
For example, many of the engagement rings and wedding bands that we offer use 100% recycled precious metals, including gold, silver, or platinum. This is certified by SCS Global Services, a third-party, international organization committed to environmental responsibility.
On a more personal level, our in-house design team can recycle your own gold, turning old pieces you no longer wear into a new piece you’ll cherish.
This method often results in new rings, necklaces, or bracelets in particular.
This not only maintains the memories and sentimentality of older pieces, but also creates a piece that is environmentally friendly.
If sustainability is your focus, reach out to our team and we will work with you to find or create jewelry that’s perfect for you.
