Throughout the pandemic many families spent time searching through old jewelry boxes, unearthing pieces worn by parents or grandparents. Many of those pieces were either in need of repair, or a total redo.
This large gold cocktail ring is one of those pieces.
A client had the ring from her family. It featured a mixture of small round diamonds and marquise shaped sapphires in a heavy gold mounting. Instead of wearing a rather large, cumbersome ring, the client thought she may enjoy a necklace. With the help of her daughter we looked at several different designs, but settled on a vertical bar style necklace.
To better highlight each stone, we decided to use a prong setting in white gold. We placed the largest round diamond at the top of the bar, followed by the largest marquise shaped sapphire. Then we continued that pattern, graduating down in size. The bar was attached to a diamond cut white gold cable chain, which really sparkles.
The diamonds and sapphires are not big, when you look at them unset, but put together in this necklace they really stand out beautifully, looking bright and colorful. They make a nice statement, particularly compared to how hidden and dull they looked in the original ring.
