Nearly every piece of custom jewelry that we design and create includes pieces of someone’s past. That was the case for a client who visited us this fall, hoping to create a custom necklace for her daughter using family diamonds.
There were 4 loose stones, passed down from the recipient’s grandmother. Instead of creating just one necklace, and a pair of earrings with the stones, the client wanted her daughter to have a necklace using all 4 of the loose diamonds. In the past, the daughter had expressed interest in a lariat style piece we had in the store. That was the beginning of our design process.
Working with one of our specialists, the client reviewed a very rough rendering of how the necklace would look.
The design called for the largest diamond to be used at the top of the necklace, followed by two slightly smaller stones just below. Then, to mimic the lariat style that the recipient liked, we dangled one final diamond from a 1” stretch of chain. Each diamond was set in a small bezel hand created by our Goldsmith. The entire piece was constructed on a 20” white gold chain, with closures at both 16” and 18” to allow for maximum versatility and layering.
The final piece came out beautifully. It’s a modern looking necklace that holds history from several generations!
