The transformation of a caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly is a wonder of nature.
Recently at Hingham Jewelers, we had our own butterfly transformation.
A client came in with a diamond cross, a yellow gold diamond insert style ring, and a yellow gold ring featuring a marquise shaped diamond.
She wanted to turn all of these pieces into a diamond butterfly pendant as a Christmas gift for her daughter.
The first step in the design process is measuring each individual stone carefully, to know exactly what we have to work with.
Then our team begins to create a design matching the client’s wish.
In this case, our designer worked with our Goldsmith to come up with this stunning design.
We used 20 small diamonds from both rings to highlight the wings of the butterfly. Then, in the center, we used the marquise shaped diamond to form the butterfly’s body. The stones were set in the gold from the original rings, ensuring none of the metal went to waste. Then, as a final touch, the wings were attached on each side to the 20” chain, which previously was used with the cross. That keeps the piece in place when worn.
This is a stunning example of how a series of older, unused pieces can be given a new life in a totally different piece. If you have a custom project you’d like to discuss, make an appointment with our design team.
