At Hingham Jewelers, those decisions are guided by a straightforward philosophy. We aim to treat customers, employees, and partners fairly, and to offer jewelry and service we’re proud to put our name behind.
Why doesn’t Hingham Jewelers negotiate prices?
We’ve never negotiated prices. We believe jewelry should be priced fairly from the start, so you can make a decision based on the piece itself and its value to you—not on whether you might get a better deal by waiting for a sale.
We don’t want to mark up a piece just to advertise a large discount later. Straightforward pricing makes the experience clearer for everyone. It helps customers understand what they’re paying for and supports a business that can stand behind its work and treat its employees well.
How does Hingham Jewelers choose diamonds?
We carefully review the diamonds we consider for our collection. We look at quality, price, and the balance between them: the value a particular stone offers the customer.
That means considering more than the numbers on a grading report. A diamond’s proportions, appearance, and how large it looks when viewed from above can all matter. For example, a stone with a slightly lower carat weight might face up larger than another diamond, offering a different balance of size and price.
We also want to better understand a diamond’s journey before it reaches our showroom. Hingham Jewelers President Michael Page has traveled to South Africa and Antwerp, Belgium, to learn more about the steps between rough diamond, cutting and polishing, and the finished stone.

We work with vendors we trust to provide strong quality and stand behind their work. Those are values we expect of ourselves, and we look for the same in the companies and craftspeople we partner with.
Many of our vendor relationships span generations of ownership. Longstanding partnerships help us know the people behind the products and give us confidence in the quality and service our customers receive.
How does Hingham Jewelers inspect jewelry repairs?
Every repair goes through several quality checks.
When a piece arrives, it is inspected at least twice. We document its condition with detailed notes and photographs so there is a clear record before work begins.
After the repair is complete, it is inspected three more times: first by the goldsmith who completed the work, then by a member of our service team, and finally by someone at the managerial level. Each review helps us confirm that the work is complete and the piece is ready to return to its owner.

We provide appraisals for insurance and other needs, including estate-related purposes. The right documentation depends on why the appraisal is being prepared, so we’ll discuss the intended use with you.
For an insurance appraisal, our trained professionals examine the piece and document details such as its metals, gemstones, quality, measurements, and current replacement value. Appraisals are complimentary with new jewelry purchases. Because market values change over time, we recommend reviewing and updating appraisals every three to five years.
