Over the years, sometimes we like to say the jewelry “shrinks.” A diamond that you received decades ago, and once looked substantial, now looks a bit small. That can happen as your perspective changes over the years.
That’s what a long-time client of ours faced ahead of her 40th anniversary. She came in this fall, ahead of the celebration, to discuss an upgrade to her ring.
Her original ring featured three oval diamonds set in yellow gold. She still wanted to incorporate yellow gold, which she loves, but wanted something a bit different. She also wanted to use her original engagement diamond in the ring.
Our design specialist went to work, devising a plan that would meet all those specifications.
We settled on a new three stone ring, still using oval diamonds. We sourced a brand new diamond for the center, just over 2 carats, and we moved her original diamond to the side. Then we sourced a matching stone, just under three-quarters of a carat, for the other side. We set the stones into a yellow gold mounting, using platinum prongs for extra security.
And just like that, the ring grew exponentially, giving the client a show-stopper of a ring 40 years in the making!
We didn’t stop there, however.
We created a new wedding band to match her new engagement ring, and we used the side stones from her original engagement ring to make a pair of earrings, “reusing” every last piece of the original ring and its memories.
