Mother's Engagement Ring Combined with Wedding Set to Create New Rings

After years of marriage, many couples are ready to refresh their original wedding rings. That was the case for one couple that stopped in to our store this summer.

The husband wanted his wife to upgrade her ring, but she was hesitant. She wasn’t sure what style she wanted, but she did know she wanted to incorporate her mother’s ring, which was left to her.

She brought all of the rings to our design team looking for inspiration.

Her original engagement ring was a solitaire, with a plain gold wedding band.

Her mother’s engagement ring featured one larger stone, and four small accent diamonds.

She told our design specialist about her goal of combining both engagement rings into one, but she also mentioned she didn’t want a two stone look.

Instead, our designer suggested a three stone.

So, in a custom made three-stone mounting, we use her original engagement diamond, and her mother’s original engagement diamond. We then supplied a third stone to complete the look.

Then we melted down her left over original mounting, and her mother’s original mounting. From that melted gold, our Goldsmith crafted a new wedding band. He also used the small accent diamonds from her mother’s engagement ring in that new band, burnishing them into the gold. We added one diamond into the band for balance and design.

The new engagement set is a beautiful mixture of sentimental diamonds, telling the story of our client’s life, while also reusing metal that otherwise would’ve gone to waste.
